BITRATE CALCULATOR
Calculate the ideal bitrate for H.264 encoding.
A simple spreadsheet for calculating the ideal bitrate for H.264 encoding, in Numbers and Excel format. Enter the pixel dimensions of your desired video size, the fps, and adjust the ratio based on Jan Ozer's magic data rates/pixel chart [archive].
Change width and height parameters, frame rate, and enter the following bits per pixel value according to the chart:
- 640 x 360: 0.150
- 848 x 480: 0.125
- 1280 x 720: 0.100
- 1920 x 1080: 0.080
These values are guidelines and a good place to start. For more info, read Jan Ozer's article.
