WIDESCREEN MATTE

A poor human's Techniscope.

A set of Widescreen Mattes for 1.66:1, 1.70:1, 1.78:1, 1.85:1, 2.35:1, 2.55:1, and 3.00:1 ratios, selectable with a drop down menu. It won't make your images sharper, it won't make them better and it's probably not the best way to do a widescreen (as in, why not just make your FCPX project settings the right ratio), but it might be useful if you have a section in your edit that you need matted in a widescreen aspect ratio.

Comes in as a title effect, so you can lay it over the whole timeline like a boss, and not apply it to each clip like a tool. Here's a bonus power tip for you: if you've shot 16:9 and and matting to something wider, like 2:35 and up, you can reframe your shot by adjusting the Transform Y Position underneath the matte layer. Nice.

Installing

Comes in as a title effect. Unzip and drag the put in Titles/fsorvin folder (or the enclosed folder if you already have an fsorvin folder) into your Motion Templates Titles folder, usually located in ~/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles.

The title effect will appear in FCPX under the Titles section of the Titles and Generators sidebar, under fsorvin.
